The above pictures display our gorgeous breeder cats.  Ptolemy is our foundation sire and Loverboy is our upcoming sire.  Twister and Mysty are our Queens.  Khemenu Cattery is a very small cattery that produces exceptional quality Egyptian Maus.  All our cats reside in our home and all our kittens are socialized in the home with our adult cats.

Our Lucy and Smokin Hot Sister have been featured in the book Egyptian Maus Are The Best by Elaine Landau. Our beloved Spike appears in the book Cat Tails from Malta by Jennifer Roche.

Kittens

All our kittens are from Champion lines and make wonderful pets. We own the Best and 2nd Best Egyptian Mau in our TICA Region for 2008. We have placed kittens all over the world and have excellent references.

Our kittens live with our other Maus and are raised in our home. They are weaned at 6 weeks of age and kept with litter mates and socialized with our other cats. We require all kittens to be altered at 5 months of age.

Kittens come with all their vaccines including Rabies ( if they leave after 14 weeks of age) when they go to new home. The kittens are very confident when they arrive at their new homes and with proper introduction to other animals, develop nicely.

Egyptian Maus are very loyal and love to be around and involved with everything their owners do. They are very curious, very athletic, very dog-like (they play in water, fetch toys, come when you call their name), and love to play like kittens even when they are full grown.

HISTORY OF THE EGYPTIAN MAU

The Egyptian Mau has a very interesting history. The Mau is the only naturally spotted domestic cat, and is one of the oldest breed of cat in existence. These cats are depicted by hieroglyphs on a temple in Cairo in early 2000 BC. The Egyptian Mau's are thought to be descendants of the African Wild cat. The Egyptian Mau was worshiped as gods, mummified and entombed when they died in Ancient Egyptian history.

The Mau first arrived in the United States in 1956 when the exiled Russian Princess Nathalie Troubetskoy imported several Egyptian Mau's into this country. In the early 1980's two bronze Mau's were found in a zoo in India and imported by Jean Mills. They were classified as "Indian Mau" despite the controversy behind the cats, the blood of Millwood's Toby and/or Millwood's Tasha are currently found in most all Egyptian Mau lines.

In the late 1980's and 1990's additional Egyptian Mau's were imported from Egypt and France. Unfortunately now many of the Maus in Egypt are feral and have been infected with FeLV and or FIV. It is sad that the cats that were once worshiped as Gods are now considered a menace in Egypt. It will take careful management and breeding practices both here and abroad in order to preserve this magnificent breed.

Josi and Lola
Josi and Lola

My family is the very ecstatic owner of our beloved Egyptian Mau, Lola. She is the absolute joy of our lives. She is my 3 year old's right hand lady; we always say that they are like siblings. People remark all the time how shocked they are to see Lola with my daughter. Lola just turns to putty as my daughter carts her around, picks her up, drops her off and plays with toys with her.

Her kittenhood [sic] didn't last that long compared to other breeds and she got chill pretty fast. It still amazes me that at not even 2 she is perfectly content to lay in our laps while we watch TV. Other cats I have had just do not do that and especially not at the young age of 2!

I always tell people the story of going to a cat show in Austin. In the spotted breed category there were Bengals and Maus. All of the bengals were howling and crawling upside down on the tops of their cages. At the end 2 very calm spotted cats were just hanging out. No howling. Laying down in fact. Those were the Maus (Nanci's in fact). That spoke volumes of the laid back nature of this breed. They are active and playful too but its not like a Bengal in which you are basically having a perpetual 3 year old in your house.

Lola barely sheds. Nothing like DSHs, Siamese or Maine Coons (those are the breeds I have owned). And the color does seem to blend in better than many other colors of hair. Owners of this breed are very passionate about them because that is just how amazing they are.

I researched breeds extensively and this was the breed for us ... and I don't think we are alone. ;)

Twister
Twister

Twister is fantastic! He is right at home we all love him so much and he has the sweetest personality. He is very loving and we are all so happy we added him to our family. He is very healthy and beautiful.

We were all amazed how easy it was for our new little kitty to fit right in. Nancy you did a great job with him. He went right to the litter box and had no problem with food. Thanks for letting me know what food he was already use too, it really helped keep him happy. You could tell right off that you truly love breeding these fantastic Egyptian Maus and we are so happy with your friendly advice and professionalism through out the process of adopting Twister.

We are thrilled we chose one of your Egyptian Maus to become part of our family. We are enjoying watching him play and grow up, he gets more gorgeous and there is never a dull moment with Twister around. Tarzan is now interacting well with him and Twister loves to sneak up on him! Thank you Nancy for all the information and pictures along the way. You are a very special lady and it was a pleasure meeting you and doing business with you. Twister will be well taken care of and loved by us all.

We are the proud owners of three Egyptian Maus named Krypto, Orko, and SJ. Two of them come from Nanci's Cattery. We received them in excellent health.

Our Maus are very affectionate and loving. They like to follow us around the house and generally just love to be wherever we are. Krypto is our little love bug that likes to cuddle and sleeps with Mom on a pillow and covered just like a baby. He also likes to play fetch with his favorite toy mouse, he will bring it to us over and over.

Orko is our treat and food hound. He makes sure we know when the food and water bowls need to be filled. SJ loves to be the center of attention and thinks he is a dog. He loves his kids more than anything and loves to play with them or sleep wherever they are.

These cats are a breed like no other and we absolutely love them!

We purchased our Egyptian Mau, Rocket, when he was 10 weeks old and he was a firecracker from the beginning. He was named Rocket because he's fast and incredibly quick, both physically and mentally.

By the end of the first week we'd taught him to "fetch". I've never had a cat do that before and was amazed that Rocket had the mental capacity to learn it. He's wonderfully affectionate and playful. We keep his toys in a basket in the living room, and when he wants to play he knows to look in the basket.

One of his favorite tricks is jumping up on our backs or shoulders when we least expect it; and recently he's been taking flying leaps from the back of the sofa to our shoulders. Once he's happily wrapped around the back of our necks he purrs contentedly until he's ready to dismount.

All in all, he has been a great addition to our family and a pure joy.
